In our evolution towards embracing our true selves, there come moments where our existing strategies no longer work, leaving us feeling stuck, disconnected, and lost. During these times, seeking external support can offer clarity and understanding as we navigate challenges.
I deeply honor those who choose to embark on this therapeutic journey, bravely opening themselves up to vulnerability and the profound experience of being truly witnessed by another. Within the sacred space of psychotherapy, the relationship formed can serve as a guiding light, offering a new framework for how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world.
Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or isolated aspects of a person, I view individuals as complex beings connected to various dynamic relationships and environments, both past and present.
Mental well-being is not just a matter of the mind; it encompasses the nervous system, relationships, sense of belonging, environmental factors, biology, belief systems, daily habits and culture. Each person's therapeutic journey is unique and I create a container where all your parts are respected and welcomed.
Centering holistic and somatic therapy, I use a combination of therapeutic modalities, collaborating closely with my clients and empowering them to take the lead in their healing journey. Depending on what is alive in session, we may use somatic experiencing, polyvagal informed practices, inner dialogue work, ancestral gift and wound tending, or more uncoventional practices such as tarot, astrology, or human design.
Research suggests that consistent therapeutic relationships can rewire the brain and heal trauma, leading to decreased emotional reactivity and enhanced cognitive functions like creativity and flexibility. This process enables clients to lead more authentic, fulfilling, and joyful lives.
Specialty
I specilaize in treating trauma and stress. Experiencing trauma often triggers a survival response within us. Even when the traumatic events have passed, the survival mechanisms adopted during those times can become ingrained in our nervous system, potentially resulting in long-term effects on our bodies.
Over time, these survival strategies, while initially vital for our survival, can hinder our ability to fully engage in life, preventing us from experiencing life to the fullest. The symptoms of trauma are a direct reflection of the nervous system's hyper and hypo-arousal, which are automatic responses to perceived or actual threats.
Hypoarousal involves a state of diminished physiological and psychological activity, often characterized by feelings of numbness, dissociation, and disconnection from oneself, people, or surroundings. On the other hand, hyperarousal involves an overactive response to perceived threats, leading to heightened alertness, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty concentrating or sleeping. These symptoms reflect the nervous system's adaptive mechanisms in response to trauma.
Recognizing the importance of the body in processing and releasing trauma, I use an integrative approach of somatics, parts work, storytelling, attachment theory, and neurobiology education to help individuals reconnect with their bodies, release stored tension, befriend their nervous system, and make meaning of what happened for post traumatic growth.
